Richard Blanco Chosen as the 2013 Inaugural Poet

Richard Blanco, the 44-year-old son of Cuban immigrants, has been chosen by President Obama to be the 2013 inaugural poet.

On January 21st, he will be reading at the second inauguration of the Democratic president. Blanco will compose an original poem for the president’s ceremonial swearing-in on the steps of the Capitol that day.

His work includes Looking for The Gulf Motel [University of Pittsburgh Press] (2012); Directions to The Beach of the Dead [University of Arizona Press] (2005); City of a Hundred Fires [University of Pittsburgh Press] (1998)
